Ep 2: A New Year Ritual: Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021

In this episode of Ease and Grow, I check in and share how I spent my holiday break then I share key learnings I uncovered during my end of year reflecting and 2021 intending. I share some of the responses that I found powerful and how those will inform my 2021. I end with tips and resources for your own New Year ritual for clarity while embarking on your goals and taking brave steps towards them.

Disclaimer: It’s perfectly fine if you’re still digesting and processing 2020! The first new moon of 2021 is on January 13th and new moons are times when the energies of intending and planting new seeds are most ripe. Also, no judgement if it takes you all of January to reflect and intend. The clarity you will gain for the rest of the year is worth this effort and focus on your intentions at the top of the year.

John and I went back through our calendars to remember 2020 highlights

We touch on:

Journaling prompts I mentioned:

  • The Biggest lesson I learned was: I can’t burn myself to keep others warm.
  • The most important thing I did for others was: share my voice and show up authentically and vulnerably (helping friends with starting therapy).
  • What am I most proud of? showed up, didn’t isolate, and bravely asked for support.
  • List your 3 biggest challenges
  • What have you learned about yourself while facing these challenges? Important to have a clear WHY in order to feel productive.
  • This year I will say yes when… an opportunity makes me feel giddy and sounds like fun.
  • This year I advise myself to… “analyze less and do what feels right more.”
  • Write your top Feelings for 2021
  • Map out your current energy exertion areas
  • Write out your top priorities for 2021
  • Manifest by writing your action steps for each 2021 goal in present tense.

Tips I shared:

  • Don’t feel pressured to do it all at once
  • Make it your own – focus on YOUR priorities, not just what sounds good
  • Set Realistic Goals – build on frequency and intensity gradually
  • Celebrate Yourself
  • Make it Enjoyable
  • Make it Actionable – dream big then break each goal down into small steps

 ❤️ where you are in life, how you feel, what's been happening, what you hope for the future (an exercise in self-intimacy)
💗 how you envision 2026 unfolding in past tense (a manifestation exercise)
🧡 your current vision for yourself in 3,5, or 10 years (see how much of your goals change in a year)
💛 a hype up encouragement letter tailored to you (a balm for seasonal sadness)

I opted for option 1 ❤️ and surprised myself with 2 pages front and back!! I really enjoyed writing this by hand with a snowscape on the tv and a candle lit. 

Make this exercise your own and let me know which option you choose!

"We're making the rules and we can change the rules"

This one is an up close and personal look at how perfectionism shows up for me and how internal family systems work can be extremely helpful for healing the stories that feed into the need to be and do things perfectly.

Stories that say you can't make a mistake or, if you're like me, "it'll be my fault." 

Atim cautions me against looking for a simple 5 step plan to heal perfectionism and encourages a practice to process deep seated emotions that we're scared to feel. We also talk about societal and cultural pressure to be perfect. It's a juicy one!!

Tune in to get tips on dealing with perfectionism and to hear a personal and healing conversation about my own neuroses that stem from the urge to control and manage things a particular way 🙃

I will say I am feeling way better after this "month of me" experience I gave myself in October. It was much needed. It didn't go exactly as planned (as it never does) but I feel like it did its job sufficiently 😌
